EPDM rubber: one sheet, no seams to fail
EPDM is a synthetic rubber membrane laid in a single sheet across most domestic flat roofs — which means no welded seams, no torch-on joints, nothing to split as the building moves. It's exceptionally resistant to UV, frost, standing water and the temperature swings that destroy felt, flexible enough to handle movement without cracking, and recyclable at end of life. Properly installed EPDM is renowned for lasting for decades with minimal maintenance.
It's the natural choice for kitchen extensions, garage roofs, porches and dormer cheeks — anywhere you want to fit a roof and forget about it.
GRP fibreglass: hard, seamless, smart
GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) is laminated in place to form a rigid, jointless shell that's completely watertight and tough enough for balconies and high-traffic details. It moulds neatly around upstands, outlets and awkward shapes, shrugs off sun, rain and frost, and can be finished in colours that sit comfortably with the rest of the house. Like EPDM, it asks for almost no upkeep beyond keeping outlets clear.
Which system suits your roof depends on size, shape, detailing and foot traffic — we'll talk you through both on survey and quote for the right one, including new decking and insulation upgrades where the existing roof needs them. Warm-roof construction (insulation above the deck) can be built in at the same time to improve comfort and energy bills in the room below.
Failed felt? We replace it properly
Bubbling, splitting, ponding water and mystery ceiling stains are the usual end-of-felt symptoms. We strip failed coverings, check and replace rotten decking, correct falls where water sits, and rebuild with your chosen system — finished with neat trims and properly detailed outlets so water leaves the roof instead of living on it.
